My brother was taking some pictures while on his jet ski a week or so ago. He posted them on Facebook. The day was unbelievably calm. I used this image to paint from. A lone gull sitting at a "rest stop"! Actually they call these buoys "cans" This is gouache water color.
Straight from the garden, on the porch. I have been watching these grow all Summer. We have to keep some plants on the deck because we have many animals around here that love our yard and what we plant. It is great place to eat
Just ask them!! Anywho, The colors are so wonderful I had to paint these peppers. This is a new watercolor for you to view. Sending great day wishes !!

One of those days when everything you look at and paint just seems boring ,so I tried a different medium. This is painted with oil pastels. I keep trying to simplify. This done from a photo I took.

This is one of my newest oils. This was painted from a photo I took at Coffins Beach a couple of weeks ago. I though this mans chair was very colorful.
It;s a Rhodiful Day in the Neighborhood! Yet but another new oil painting. This one is 10 in. square. I like painting a square. It is a different challenge. It is always fun making it work. I really tried to push the color here again. I want to put as much color as I can with out making it to crazy. Sometimes I like to make it crazy ,but not this time .I think most people want to buy a reasonably realistic painting, One that they can identify with or one that has meaning for them. Trying to make it feel like a Rhododendron in bloom on an late Spring day. It is Summer today though and a very warm one . I hope all are enjoying it. These are the days some wait for all winter. Have a good one until next time :)
Here is another new oil painting, it is 9'x 12' I painted it from a photo I took. As I try to continue writing on this blog, ( that I hope maybe someone reads!) I like painting " white " paintings once in a while. It forces you to see and paint the colors that are in the shadows. There is so much color every where, most people do not see it. Artists are trained to see color, instead of just the local color of an object. We try to see the colors that are really there. You might think it is ridiculous! but color is there. Another note, I have a tip on cleaning brushes, after you are done painting for the day or you want to get a certain color out of your brush, (this is if you are painting with oils or acrylics) wipe most of the paint off your brush with a rag or paper towel, then if you are using oil paint, dip your brush into paint thinner, then continue to wipe the excess paint off your brush and then go to the sink and use soap and warm water, swirl it in the palm of your hand until the soap gets to be the color of the paint in your brush, rinse it and repeat until the brush is clean. Let it dry on a flat surface. When the brush is totally dry then you can stand it on it's heal end. NEVER stand a brush on the brush end in water or in anything else. it will ruin it. the glue will get soft and then dry out and the ferrule will get loose and fall off the handle. Do the same with the acrylic paint except just use warm water.
I hope this helps a little. If anyone does read this blog let me know I would appreciate it. Have a productive day, and keep painting!!
I am helping out this year, as I have done in the years before. We are trying to make the hall of the church look like a cave. So far, some kids have seen it and it is a big thumbs up! We try our best. So glad I have had some help. I always love to see the kids faces when they first see it. Then I get a good indication of how well we did. We are almost done for this years Vacation Bible School. Next week the children come to enjoy and learn about their faith. I will post more when finished. I always love giving back to God with the gifts God has given me. We all have gifts , let us use them for the good of others, and be grateful for them. Enjoy your day!! :)
This is a new small oil sketch ,it is about 8x 10 inches. It might be a little loud for some but, these type of paintings are good if you want to learn how to push your limits. Try to think out of the box sort of speak and try to limit color and expand your horizons. I know my subject matter is not very different but I have used only a few colors here. I have worked them as fresh and bright as possible. Simplifying shapes as I went along. I know it is not always easy to try something new, most times I try to do this, the painting looks the same as most others I paint. I keep trying. That is one of my best advice to artists. Just keep going, It is all about the process and enjoying it. If you don't enjoy it, maybe it is not for you. But also, it is not always about the feeling, most of us today live to much on feelings. We got to ignore the feeling and keep working at our art and craft. If this is what God has made us to be, our work will show it. You will see the light of God in your painting and others will to. So ,All that is my little advice for today. Enjoy your day, now! :)

This new image today is from another upcoming coloring page book of designs. They are a second edition of the link to follow. http://amzn.to/28XLQMw. This link goes to one of my Kindle coloring page design books you can purchase. I have been doing a lot of black and white designs on paper. Then I scan them into the computer and put them into books. I have found it is a great way to make a little extra money on line. This one above is sort of abstract , but I think most people know what it is. I have tried to draw it as a flower would feel to me. Some people might think it is weird and I guess it might be considered that way, as I see it and feel it, I am some what happy with it . I think it works as a design. It is not perfect, but I think art does not have to be perfect. To me, it has to be beautiful. I hope when some one purchases my design coloring books, and they ad their own color it gives them some sort of creativity and sense of pride that possibly they don't have the time or the resources to do on there own . So All Thanks for reading my little blurb for the day. I hope your day is a peaceful and productive one. See you soon! :)
Hello, every one, I am back from my trip to SoCal. We had a great time. It is so beautiful there. Every time I come back I always think about relocating. the weather is nice, the surroundings, the people, the views, the flowers. Just and all round great place to live. Plus, my sis lives there and that is always a wonderful time.
I took many pictures for painting and others. Sat by the ocean and watched the waves and people and scenery. Can't say enough about it ,but I will.
I want to share a few pics below and also want to talk about a new travel paint set that I got while I was in CA.
Some of you water colorists might like it also.
Below are 2 photos I took, the top one is a small water color I did with the new set of a travel watercolor set I got on my trip to CA. The watercolors are called Koi and they are made in China. As you can see they are a very good set of paints. The set comes with 24 colors, a wide range for a travel set. It also comes with a very interesting brush and one I never used before. The brush can be filled with water, so you really do not need to have a container of water with you, but it helps. After you fill it with water you squeeze it and water flows down to the tip, then you just work your paint as you would with any other watercolor brush. The colors are very bright and brilliant and they give you a lot of space for pallet mixing. I would highly recommend them, if you like this sort of thing. They are a little pricey but I used a coupon at Hobby Lobby and got them for about 21.00. My new toy, I felt like a kid with one any way. A little treat for me. lol! They did not pay me to say this, I like to give my opinion on supplies that are available for artists. I also want to give advice and help, if others out there need any. Signing off until next time, have a blessed day. A
Got Blue? I do! Another new painting to write about today. Just a brief interrupt to say THANK YOU ! to all the men and women of the US who have served our country and some who have made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives. We honor you today and pray for our Great Country and ALL who have served it. We owe all our freedom to you and your great service. A blessed Memorial Day to All.
Let's get back to the painting. This is an oil painting, that I finished yesterday. Yes, A lot of blue color in it. I did try to variate the color to make it more interesting, but think I should of put even more color into it. I might revisit it though. I think I will let it sit a few days to see what I can do differently. On this painting I used the water based oil paints that I have switched over to from regular oils. I really like them so much, I see no difference in water-based oils ,they seem the same to me. They are so easy to clean up and you do not get the paint thinner or turpentine odors. The paint breaks down easily with soap and warm water. You can also swish a brush in water as you do with watercolors or acrylics and most of the paint comes out of the brush. Then just wipe excess moisture off the brush and start painting with another color.
The mediums that you can purchase for painting with them are also really good. They work just like regular oil painting mediums and they wash out of your brush easily as I talked about above. There are some very good brands of water based oils on the market. I have used Grumbacher, Winsor & Newton Lukas, and Weber brands they are all good and can be mixed interchangeably with out a problem. If you have regular oil paints, you can also mix them with water-based oil paints, just remember though, only about 20% of the regular to the water-based. There should be no trouble with permanency or consistency. I started out with only a few tubes to see if I would like them. I think it's a good way to go.
In this painting, I have tried to paint the shapes of the flower, I try to simplify them. This is still at times difficult for me ,I tend to want to put the details in it. I keep working to see it as a design of shapes and color that work pleasingly together. I have a ways to go with it, I hope to get better at it. Time will tell! One thing I have found out over the years is every painting is a learning experience no matter how small. Your knowledge builds over time.
As always, I hope this blog gives you some new incite into the very vast world of painting and mediums. Please do not hesitate to leave a comment or question, i would be glad to answer as best I can. Remember
just keep painting! Enjoy your day. :) A
I'm back did yah miss me! lol, just kidding. I got a new painting to write about today. This one I recently finished. It is a watercolor ,gouache painting ,called Daffodils of Spring. This was from a photo I took this spring and decided to paint it. I am going to write a bit today about the process of how I start and paint a painting. Most of the time I paint from photos, as I take many of them to use for my work. I would rather take my own then have to worry about using someone else 's. I really think it is so much better to use your own photos ,then it is Truly Yours! To start, I look at the many I have, sometimes it takes awhile because I am looking for something specific, like the light, or a feeling with the light. Sometimes it is color with light. In most of my work I try to portray light as it falls on a flower or the patterns light creates in a landscape or still life. When I finally find what I want to paint, I will crop a photo also and maybe, intensify the contrast or color. I decide what kind of paint or medium I want to use. I print the photo and start to paint. Here, as I said above I used gouache. Gouache is one of my favorite mediums. It is so very flexible. It can be so much like acrylics or oils and can be so much as watercolor can be. If you would like to read more about how to use gouache paint check out the Kindle book I wrote at this link. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E2T1CLQ
In this book, I go into a lot more detail about painting with Gouache. In this painting as I hope you can see, I tried to use color in a very harmonic way. I wanted colors to blend and look comfortable with each other. I look into the shadows and try to put color into them, more than just black and white. There is so much color around us, as artists we have to train our eyes to see it, so others can learn to see it as well. Color in shadows and in objects, I think gives a painting much more interest and depth. I exaggerate it at times. That is up to you though.
That is my little painting lesson for today. I hope you have enjoyed it and I will wright again soon to share more artistic words of wisdom. Blessings to All. bye for now:) A
O Kay, Here I go, I have decided to start to write more on my blog. I hope I can keep it up. I am going to try and start writing more about my work and give some pointers along the way . It is my goal to give some pointers ,ideas and inspiration to some of you wonderful people out there on the www. I hope it will be interesting and informative to others. Just to say a bit about this new piece, this is another mixed media painting. Here again I have used gouache and pastel. The pastels are new, and kind of interesting, because they are water soluble. That means they break down in water. They are fun to try. They are very smooth when you are drawing/painting with them, then you can go over them with a wet brush. This helps to soften edges and blend colors. They come in lots of wonderful colors and you can buy them in sets or individually. They really give you a new way of working and some fresh ideas. I find I need that in all sorts of parts of my life. You know, variety is the spice ..... Try it have fun, a blessed day to you. A
This is where you will find Andrea's newest painting, design, illustration and any other news about her work. enjoy!.
